Uterine Fibroid Treatment

Find Relief from Fibroid Symptoms Without Major Surgery

Uterine fibroids are one of the most common gynecologic conditions affecting women, yet many continue to live with heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pressure, chronic pain, and frequent urination because they believe a hysterectomy is their only treatment option.

At NovaGen Interventional, Dr. Abhishek Kumar and Dr. Jason Chiu offer Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), a minimally invasive, image-guided procedure that shrinks fibroids by blocking their blood supply. UFE can provide lasting symptom relief while preserving the uterus, helping many women avoid major surgery and lengthy recovery.

Why Early Treatment Matters

Fibroids often continue to grow over time, causing symptoms that interfere with your daily life. Seeking treatment early may help relieve symptoms before they become more severe.

Reduce Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

Decrease excessive bleeding that can interfere with work, family, and daily activities.

Preserve Your Uterus

UFE treats fibroids without removing the uterus, making it an excellent alternative to hysterectomy for many women.

Relieve Pelvic Pressure & Pain

Reduce the discomfort caused by fibroids pressing on surrounding organs.

Get Back to Living Faster

Most patients return to normal activities within one to two weeks, compared to much longer recovery after surgery.

Understanding Uterine Fibroids

What Are Uterine Fibroids?

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths that develop within or on the wall of the uterus. They vary in size and number and can affect women differently. While some women experience no symptoms, others develop significant pain, heavy bleeding, or pressure that impacts their quality of life.

Fibroids are extremely common, particularly during the reproductive years.

What Happens If Fibroids Are Left Untreated?

While fibroids are almost always benign, untreated fibroids may continue growing and lead to worsening symptoms. Heavy menstrual bleeding can contribute to anemia, while larger fibroids may cause increasing pelvic discomfort, bladder pressure, and reduced quality of life.

Common Symptoms

Women with fibroids may experience:

  • Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding
  • Pelvic pain or pressure
  • Frequent urination
  • Constipation
  • Lower back pain
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Abdominal fullness or bloating
  • Difficulty becoming pregnant in some cases

Risk Factors

Several factors may increase the likelihood of developing uterine fibroids, including:

  • Age
  • Family history
  • Hormonal changes
  • Obesity
  • African American ethnicity
  • Early onset of menstruation

Minimally Invasive Treatment for Uterine Fibroids

At NovaGen Interventional, we specialize in Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)—an advanced, minimally invasive procedure that treats fibroids without major surgery.

What Is Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)?

UFE works by blocking the blood vessels that supply fibroids with oxygen and nutrients. Without their blood supply, fibroids gradually shrink, relieving symptoms while preserving the healthy uterine tissue.

Unlike hysterectomy, UFE does not remove the uterus, and unlike myomectomy, it can treat multiple fibroids during a single procedure.

What Happens During UFE?

During the procedure, a tiny catheter is inserted through a small puncture in the wrist or groin. Using real-time imaging guidance, the catheter is directed into the uterine arteries that feed the fibroids.

Tiny embolic particles are then released to block blood flow to the fibroids while preserving circulation to the healthy uterus.

The procedure typically takes one to two hours and is performed with conscious sedation.

Benefits of UFE

Minimally Invasive

No large surgical incisions or stitches.

Uterus-Preserving

Treat fibroids without removing the uterus.

Same-Day Procedure

Most patients return home the same day.

Faster Recovery

Most women resume normal activities within one to two weeks.

Long-Lasting Relief

Many patients experience significant improvement in heavy bleeding, pelvic pressure, and pain as fibroids gradually shrink.

Frequently Asked Questions About UFE

Am I a Candidate for UFE?

Many women with symptomatic uterine fibroids are candidates for UFE, particularly those who want to avoid major surgery or preserve their uterus. A consultation and imaging evaluation will help determine whether UFE is right for you.

Is UFE Painful?

The procedure is performed under conscious sedation, and most patients remain comfortable throughout treatment. Some cramping is expected afterward as the fibroids begin to shrink, but symptoms are typically managed with medication.

How Long Does Recovery Take?

Most women return to light daily activities within one week and resume normal routines within one to two weeks.

Will My Fibroids Come Back?

The fibroids treated during UFE typically do not regrow. However, because UFE preserves the uterus, new fibroids may develop over time in some patients.

Will Insurance Cover UFE?

Many insurance plans cover Uterine Fibroid Embolization for medically necessary treatment. Our team will verify your benefits and discuss coverage with you before your procedure.
